Combining thoughtful design, powerful performance and user-friendly functionality, Kohler Co. launches the Veil wall-hung dual-flush toilet – the first residential wall-hung model offered by Kohler in North America.

“Wall-hung toilets are very popular solutions for modern bathrooms,” says Brian Hedlund, Kohler senior product manager for toilets and bidets. “And Veil offers the added bonus of being a space- and water-saver.”

Go To Our Showroom Location to see the new Kohler Veil Toilet

The Veil toilet features a concealed tank and minimal footprint, saving up to twelve inches of bathroom space compared to Kohler’s longest floor models. Additionally, as it is a wall-mounted toilet, the frame brackets are installed behind the wall and the bowl is set at a custom height, anywhere from 15 3/8 inches up to 28 ½ inches.

Its dual-flush technology – 1.6 and 0.8 gallons-per-flush – is actuated by a user-friendly wall-mounted actuator plate, which can be removed for easy access to the inner tank components. The tank and the mounting bolts, as well as the water shut off valve and electrical lines of the optional bidet seat, are completely concealed. This gives Veil a seamless look and makes for easy cleaning.

This high-efficiency toilet is WaterSense-labeled and ADA-compliant, when installation height follows guidelines, making it a great choice for inclusion in a large variety of projects, both residential and commercial. The Veil dual-flush actuator plate is offered in a variety of KOHLER finishes and the toilet bowl in an assortment of KOHLER colors to blend seamlessly with any bathroom decor.

Kohler Toilets – The King of Thrones

As you shop for a new toilet, there are a few things you’ll want to consider along with style . We’ve listed the main features and amenities here, but you can also refer to the glossary for additional definitions of terms.

1 Piece Kohler Toilets vs. 2 Piece Kohler Toilets

1-piece toilets integrate tank and bowl into a seamless, space-saving design that is easy to clean. Some low-profile models can be installed under a vanity extension when space is at a premium. Because of their special design detail, most 1-piece toilets ship with a complementary Quiet-Close™ toilet seat with Quick-Release™ functionality.

2-piece toilets feature the traditional design of a separate tank and bowl. Two- and three-bolt installation systems provide a sturdy, level connection between the tank and bowl, making installation easy.

Kohler Toilet Bowl Shape

Compact elongated 1 piece toilet bowl designs enable an elongated bowl to fit in a round-front space.

Kohler Elongated bowls provide added room and comfort for adults. These will have the abbreviation “EB.”

Kohler Round-front bowls require less space and are good for small children. These are also referred to as “plain bowls” with the abbreviation “PB.”

Kohler Comfort Height® Toilets

Kohler Comfort Height toilets, approximately 2 inches taller than standard toilets, make sitting down and standing up easier. Toilets that measure between 17 and 19 inches in height from the floor to the top of the seat are considered Comfort Height toilets, whereas traditional toilets measure below 17 inches in height. Many Kohler Comfort Height toilets are also ADA-compliant when installed per the applicable guidelines.

Kohler Toilet Gallons Per Flush

From 1.6 to 0.6, the Kohler toilet offering features a range of gallons-per-flush options to meet your household’s needs. If you’re searching for a high-efficiency Kohler toilet to save water and reduce monthly water bills, we offer water-saving watersense toilets in both gravity-fed and assisted-flush models.

Kohler Toilet Flushing Technologies

We offer multiple flushing technologies to meet the needs of different homes and bathrooms – standard single-flush, dual-flush and assisted-flush. You can choose from any one of our flushing options and expect the same great performance.

Kohler Toilets with Concealed & Skirted Trapways

Most toilets have an exposed trapway that’s often hard to clean because of its location behind the bowl. Toilets with a concealed trapway feature a smooth surface at the back of the toilet where the trapway would normally be visible. Toilet Skirted trapways go a step further and offer a clean line from front to back. Both concealed and skirted trapways simplify cleaning.

Your Kohler kitchen sink is often the first thing your guests see when they walk in your kitchen. Its cleanliness reflects on you and on your house.

Having a clean Kohler kitchen sink also helps reduce germs in the house. Since every plate and bowl in your house is going to pass through your kitchen multiple times, it just makes sense to keep it as squeaky clean as possible.

So how do you keep Kohler kitchen sinks clean?

Cleaning Different Types of Kohler Kitchen Sinks

Different kinds of sinks require slightly different cleaning techniques. This helps ensure that you don’t damage your sink or cause scrapes or scratches while you’re cleaning. Read the instruction manual for your sink for exact cleaning directions.

Here are the best ways to clean the Top 3 Kohler Kitchen sinks:

Kohler Cast Iron Sinks – These are quite common and inexpensive sinks. They don’t require too much special care. If possible, purchase cleaning products designed specifically for Kohler cast iron sinks and clean the sink thoroughly every couple days. Avoid harsh cleaning tools like wire brushes.

Kohler Stainless Steel Sinks– These sinks are one level up from cast iron sinks. They look a lot brighter, but also scratch easier. Kohler stainless steel sinks should always be cleaned with a cloth, never with steel wool. Try to wipe down the sink going with the grain rather than against. Use cleaning products specifically made for stainless steel sinks.

Kohler Fireclay Sinks – These kinds of sinks are much more design focused and look more like artistic china than most kitchen sinks. They require a lot more care and attention than metallic sinks. For one, you should wash the Kohler fireclay sink and wipe it off with a cloth after you use it every time. Get a sink rack that you can place on the bottom of the sink to prevent plates from scratching the sink. Use cleaning products only every once in a while.

Handling Kitchen Sink Stained Surfaces

What should you do if there’s a stain on your sink? No problem – The solution is actually quite simple.

Mix half a cup of borax with a fourth of a cup of lemon juice. Apply this mixture to any stained area, then let it sit for a few minutes. You’ll be able to scrub the stain off with your sponge once the mixture has had a chance to soak.

This process doesn’t damage your sink and works with any kind of sink.

Getting Rid of Kitchen Sink White Spots

If you notice white spots on your sink that just don’t seem to come out, don’t fret. These white spots are harmless. They’re actually lime deposits that come from water that’s rich in minerals. These minerals consolidated on your kitchen counter and now appear as white spots.

To get rid of them, just soak a paper towel in vinegar. Put the towel on top of the white spot, rub the vinegar in then leave the paper towel there for 15 minutes. You’ll be able to simply rub off the spot after 15 minutes has passed.

Keeping Your Kitchen Sponge Clean

Your kitchen sponge is what you’re going to use to clean your dishes and your kitchen sink most of the time. Unfortunately, it’s also a ripe breeding ground for all kinds of bacteria and micro-bacterial life forms.

You know that strange smell you often get from your kitchen sponges? That’s the smell emitted by other living creatures in the sponge. Simply washing your sponge out isn’t enough to clean it, nor is soap. There are two easy ways you can clean your sponges.

One is to boil a pot of water and toss your sponges in. Turn off the heat and leave it there for a few minutes. Pour out the water and your sponges are squeaky clean.

The second method’s even easier. Wet your sponge, then stick it in the microwave. Watch it carefully and heat it in 10 second increments until the sponge steams out all the water. Repeat twice more. Be very careful not to overheat the sponge, or it could catch on fire.

Keep your sponges clean to avoid spreading bacteria while wiping down your sink.

If you follow these tips, you’ll be able to keep your Kohler kitchen sink clean at all times, no matter what your sink is made of. Keep your sink clean to avoid germs and to make a stellar impression on your guests.

Replacing your own showerhead can seem like a daunting task. In reality, it’s actually quite simple. You don’t have to touch any of the in-wall plumbing yourself at all. Your showerhead simply attaches to the existing plumbing. The whole thing takes less than 20 minutes if you’re experienced with DIY projects. Even if you’re not used to doing your own home improvement projects, replacing your shower faucet shouldn’t take you more than an hour.

Doing your own shower head replacement can help save you a lot of money on contractors. Having a contractor come in to do the installation for you can easily cost you two or three times more than the new faucet itself.

So how do you replace your old shower head and put in the new Kohler Moxie Showerhead & Wireless Speaker? Here’s our step by step guide.

Step 1) Buying the Moxie Showerhead

The first thing you need to do is make sure you buy the right Kohler Moxie Showerhead. There are 2 kinds of Moxie Showerheads to choose from. You have the Kohler Moxie 2.5 gpm and the Kohler Moxie 2.0 gpm. Do you want more water pressure or less? Choose the Kohler Moxie 2.5 gpm Showerhead for a larger flow, pick the Kohler Moxie 2.0 gpm if you are looking to save on water.

Step 2) Shut Off the Water Supply

Locate your main water valve shut off in your home. It should be the main pipe coming into your house. Turn it to the off position. Verify that you have no more water flowing in by turning on a faucet in the house. No water should come out.

Release any water that’s still sitting in your shower outlet by opening the valve. You should now be able to work without worrying about the water.

NOTE: Turn off your water heater when you shut off your main water supply, or your water heater may overheat.

Step 3) Unscrew the Old ShowerHead

You will need a set of pliers and a small adjustable wrench to unscrew your old showerhead. Be careful when you start unscrewing it, if anything starts to turn behind the showerhead, you should stop. Use an adjustable wrench to loosen and unscrew the old showerhead by turning it counterclockwise. That way you are holding what’s behind the showerhead stationary.

Once you’ve taken off the old showerhead clean off any rust or mineral deposits and old tape or sealant on the shower arm threads.

Step 4) Adding the New Kohler Moxie Showerhead

Wrap Teflon tape in a clockwise direction 2-3 times around the threads of the shower arm. Press the tape into the threads. Screw the new Kohler Moxie Showerhead onto the shower arm in a clockwise direction and hand tighten. Turn on the water, and check for leaks. If leaks occur, carefully tighten the showerhead until there are no leaks or remove the showerhead and apply more Teflon tape.

Step 5) Testing Your New Kohler Moxie Shower Head

Go outside your house and turn your main valve back on. Make sure the main water supply is back on by turning on a different faucet.

Now go back to your showerhead and try both the hot and the cold water. Try adjusting the volume. Make sure everything works properly.

Congratulations! You’ve just changed your shower head. The whole process is really as simple as taking out the old showerhead and putting the new one in.

When installed properly they can last 20 years with little maintenance. Unfortunately, even Kohler faucets need maintenance due to constant pressure and are susceptible to leaks. Leaky faucets are a very serious issue that should be addressed immediately, or even preemptively. A leaking faucet can cost you hundreds of dollars a year in wasted water bills. It can also cause water damage from leaked water soaking into your walls or floors. It can also cause mold, which can further damage your home or cause allergic reactions.

Fortunately, it’s not that difficult to prevent your Kohler faucets from leaking. Here’s how it’s done.

Kohler Shower Faucets

To prevent a Kohler shower faucet from leaking, all you need to do is add a thin layer of plumber’s tape around the threading.

To begin, unscrew the Kohler shower head from the shower pipe. Set it aside. Take your roll of plumber’s tape and get it as close to exactly parallel to the edge of the threaded pipe head as possible.

Wrap the threaded pipe with your plumber’s tape exactly once. Less than that and the threading will be uneven. More than once and the tape may be too thick. Press the tape into the thread firmly.

Then screw the Kohler shower faucet back on. To really make sure the faucet won’t leak; give it a couple extra twists using a wrench. Wrap the wrench with a thin towel or with tape to make sure the wrench doesn’t scratch the faucet or the pipe.

Kohler Kitchen Faucets

Kohler is widely known for their kitchen faucets. The Coralais in particular is a very popular collection because of its rotating handle and bonnet. While Kohler kitchen faucets are generally very durable and well constructed, even these faucets can leak from time to time. Primarily, this is due to loosened or worn out bearings or O-rings.

To begin with, pick up Service Part Number GP30420 from Kohler’s maintenance website:

http://www.us.kohler.com/us/catalog/maintenanceLanding.jsp?tab=1

Before you do anything to the faucet, make sure the water flow is completely turned off. You can turn off the water flow by going underneath our sink. You should find a knob you can turn that shuts off all flow of to the faucet. Turn this knob clockwise about half a turn, until it feels right. Check that the water is truly off by turning on the faucet. If no water flows, you’re ready to get started.

Look behind the faucet to locate the faucet’s plastic button. Peel off this button. You may need to use a flathead screwdriver or a knife to peel the button out. Set it aside. Under the button is a screw. Unscrew this screw.

Once you’ve unscrewed the screw under the button, the handle should naturally slide out. Set the handle aside, and then unscrew the bonnet as well. The bonnet is the circular half-dome that sat directly under where the handle used to be. It unscrews counter-clockwise.

Now you’re looking at the innards of the faucet itself. Grasp the body firmly and pull. The whole thing should come out of the sink. You’ll now have access to the entire apparatus.

Locate the bearings and the O-Rings. Using the parts you purchased earlier, replace the O-Rings and the bearings. Make sure to tighten everything so there’s no room for leakage.

Now put the body of the faucet back into the sink. Screw the bonnet back on top. Level your eye to the bottom of the bonnet and make sure there’s no space between the bottom of the bonnet and the top of the sink. Then place the handle back on top of the bonnet.

Screw the handle back into place, then put the button back over the screw. You may have to use a knife again to get the button to “pop” back into place.

These two processes will help you prevent your Kohler faucets from leaking, both in the kitchen and in the shower. As always, if you ever suspect that your faucet might be leaking even if just a little bit, it pays to be cautious. One easy way to check is to turn of all the water in your house, then go out and check your water meter. If the water meter is still moving, that means you probably have a leak you need to look into.

The latest design trends have moved from function to style. Homeowners want the fixtures in their bathrooms to be a conversation point when friends come over. Whether you’re planning on making just a few small upgrades or a major bath renovation, these 4 simple ideas can help you realize your bathroom’s full potential packed with style.

1. Add style and save water

Installing a new faucet is a simple way to improve the visual appeal of your bathroom while conserving water. According to the EPA, faucets account for 15 percent of indoor home water use – that’s more than 1 trillion gallons of water in the U.S. each year. Selecting a WaterSense-certified faucet from a reputable faucet manufacturer, such as Kohler, will reduce water flow by 30 percent or more without sacrificing performance. Kohler Faucets have been recognized as an EPA Watersense leader.

2. Lighting up the bath

One way to stretch your dollars is by updating the vanity lighting in your bathroom. Your bathroom lighting is crucial to how well it functions and how great it looks, so you can really maximize the benefits of upgrading the lighting in this space. Use these simple tips when installing: Install a bath fixture that is at least 24” wide directly over your mirror and approximately 75”-80” above the floor. If you want additional task lighting and ambiance, go for wall sconces on either side of the mirror, at least 28” apart and 60” above the floor. Not only will this layer the light, but really add pop to the overall design.

3. Switch out your showerhead

Replacing your old and inefficient showerhead is one of the easiest things to upgrade. They are relatively inexpensive, and can save you hundreds of dollars in water bills over time. This is where you get the most bang for your buck. Water-saving showerheads use the latest technologies to save water while actually improving your showering experience. The Kohler Flipside™ showerhead is a great upgrade because it offers four distinct showering patterns in one showerhead. The Kohler Hydrorail™ allows you to simplify your shower upgrade by converting your existing fixed showerhead to a luxurious spa-like shower with handshower option.

4. Bathroom Vanities

The single largest change in bathroom remodeling has revolved around the bathroom cabinets and counter top. You used to have to install a cabinet and nail it to the wall. Then custom cut the countertop and splash wall along with cutting out the hole for the bathroom sink. Then you had to caulk the sink evenly. The majority of the cost was in the installation process with multiple contractors. This can now be one piece of furniture called a bathroom vanity. It can be removed and installed without any demolition. Just like furniture you can easily change it out when styles change. Many vanities come with integrated sinks, counter top options and even faucets.

Bathroom upgrades continue to prove their worth with a strong return on investment. They will also provide that aesthetic satisfaction and style for the next few years while you stay in your existing home. Even small upgrades and enhancements can make a huge difference.

There are all kinds of factors to consider, both on the practical level and on the aesthetic level. Make sure to involve your spouse and the rest of your family in the decision making process to make sure everyone’s happy with the results. Here are some of the most important questions you should consider when you’re looking for the perfect kitchen sink.

How Many Holes Does Your Kitchen Sink Have?

Generally you’ll want to purchase a kohler kitchen faucet that has the same number of holes as your kitchen sink. If you have a 3 hole sink, you’ll want to go with a 3 hole faucet.

There are exceptions to this rule of thumb. You can drill a new hole in your kitchen sink if you really want a more elaborate faucet. You can also “fill” a hole by placing a metal placeholder over it.

Most people will simply choose to go with the existing number of holes in their sink.

2 Popular Kitchen Faucet Sprayer Choices

What kind of sprayer do you want your sink to come with? The 2 most popular choices are integrated sprayers and side sprayers.

Integrated sprayers, known as pull down faucets, are built into the faucet itself. You can simply pull the faucet out and press a button to use it as a sprayer. These are fantastic for 1-hole kitchen sinks.

The other popular choice is the sprayer on the side, known as a kitchen faucet with side spray. You just push down the handle on the sprayer to activate it.

Of course, you can forgo the sprayer entirely if you so choose.

Kitchen Faucet Accessories You Want to Build In

Are there unusual accessories that you want to build into your sink?

For example, you might choose to install your own water filter under the sink. In that case, you want a separate outlet for filtered water. That outlet’s going to take up a hole; so you need to factor that into your decision making process.

Another common accessory might be a built-in under the sink soap dispenser. Make these accessory decisions early so you can plan around them.

Selecting the Ideal Kitchen Faucet Handle

There are 2 main kinds of handles you can choose from.

First, you have the single handle faucet. This handle turns left and right in a gradient, allowing you to easily go from hot to warm to cold with a sweep of the hand. This kind of handle is ergonomic, simple and easy to use. Most single hole designs use this kind of handle.

Then you have the 2 handle designs. These two handles may or may not take up two additional holes next to the faucet itself, depending on the design. These handles look a little more sophisticated, but they do take up more room. Also, it’s a little harder to get the exact water temperature you’re looking for.

Make your decision based on aesthetics as well as practicality.

The Kitchen Faucet’s Height

One often overlooked factor to consider is the faucet’s height. If you regularly use large pots and pans, you’ll want to make sure you either have a tall faucet or have a faucet that can detach. The last thing you want is for your faucet head to get in the way of you putting your pots in the sink. Taller faucets get more attention if a center piece is what you so desire.

On Designs, Curves and Finishes

Generally you want to have your faucet match the rest of your kitchen as closely as possible. If your sink is stainless steel, you’ll probably want to go with a stainless steel or brushed nickel finish faucet as well.

Choose the design based on the aesthetics of the rest of your kitchen. If you have a relatively simple kitchen, you might want to go with a classic straight or pull down faucet. On the other hand, if you have a more modern design, you might want to go with a curved or bridge faucet that accentuates flow.

Look through a variety of different designs either online or in a brochure. Imagine how it’ll look on your kitchen sink. Pick your top three designs, then compare your impressions with the rest of your family to arrive at your final choice.

Finding the perfect faucet for your kitchen isn’t as hard as it may seem. Just take a look at the rest of your kitchen’s design, decide on what accessories you plan on using and look at how many holes your kitchen sink has. Then make your decision based on what you practically need in your kitchen, as well as how you want your kitchen to look.
